At the heart of the future direction of the BSM vision for BMC Software is the implementation of the Atrium foundation. BMC Software is committed to making significant investments in the common enabling technologies that support its core BSM solutions, and has branded those technologies under the BMC Atrium name. BMC Atrium is an open-architected foundation that enables information sharing and centralized management across BMC Software solutions. As the core infrastructure for Business Service Management Routes to Value, BMC Atrium provides a common data repository, shared service model, and unified user and reporting interfaces to accelerate attainment of BSM. By delivering this common set of infrastructure services, BMC Atrium empowers organizations to better control the implementation and ongoing management of their IT environment.

The BMC Atrium CMDB leverages patent pending technology that creates a single, federated enterprise CMDB that addresses IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices, ensures data consistency, and integrates and automates service management processes.

BMC Atrium CMDB is a purpose-built, ITIL inspired CMDB, addressing ITIL requirement for a single, enterprise CMDB to ensure data consistency and simplify integration between differing service management processes. The other components of BMC Atrium are:

  • BMC Atrium Service Model, which maintains mappings between configuration items stored in the CMDB and the business services they support.
  • BMC Atrium View, which provides a common set of dashboards and views for the different groups that make up IT to enable IT organizations to better manage and support the IT infrastructure.
  • BMC Atrium Reporting, which aggregates information across process areas by linking multiple IT data sources and applications to create a consolidated set of data to drive IT reporting. BMC Atrium Reporting provides the knowledge across the organization to more effectively respond to business change and ensure that IT changes are controlled, calculated, and based on reliable information.
  • BMC Web Services, which provides a shared Web Services vocabulary and communication mechanism for interfacing with BMC Software solutions.

The core Atrium Suite consists of a CMDB, Run Book Automation & Dashboard Analytics Suites. These form the core inrtegration to all the solution sets providing the common integration point.
